ARTIST NOTE

'항상 자유롭게 살아가고 싶었던 소년의 몸은 어느덧 어른이 되어버렸다.'

넒은 하늘과 산이 보이는 풍경, 작고 커다란 건물 숲을 뛰어다니며 구경하는 일이 특별한 재밋거리였다. 지금은 흔한 스마트폰, 돈 한 푼 없이도 하루가 어떻게 지나갔는지 모를 정도로 즐겁게 유년기를 보내며 하고 싶은 일은 어떤 고집을 부려서든 일단 저지르고 봤었다. 지금 생각해도 어릴 때 나는 부모님께 많은 걱정을 끼치고 눈치도 없었다. 그러던 소년은 어느덧 시간이 흘러 어른의 몸이 되었고 장래에 대한 걱정과 욕심이 많아졌다.

생각은 어리던 그때와 다를 것이 없는데 지금의 나이와 상황들은 많이 다르게 느껴진다. 이처럼 상반되는 이상과 환경의 이미지를 새 형상을 한 인간의 모습으로 나타냈다. 새는 어릴 때부터 동경하던 ‘자유’와 ‘이상’을, 인간의 몸 은 ‘현실의 삶’을 상징하고 있다. 상상 속 의인화된 새는 화려한 모습으로 꿈꾸던 풍경을 돌아다닌다. 현실을 기반으로 만들어지는 상상은 현실을 자유롭게 꿈꾸고 아름답게 색칠해준다.

'틀 안에서 자유로운 나'

진정한 의미의 자유는 무엇인가? 항상 질문해도 답을 내기가 힘들다. 지금의 생각에서 자유는 억압에서 벗어난 영역에서 느끼는 ‘기쁨’이 자유의 하나라고 생각했다. 하지만 다른 방면에서는 익숙해졌던 억압이라는 틀을 벗어나면 두려움도 함께 다가온다. 인간들은 사회를 구성하고 규칙과 규율을 만들어 그 속에서 자유롭게 살아가기를 요구했다. 정해진 틀 안에서 답답함과 동시에 편안함을 느끼며, 틀에서 벗어나면 자유로움과 동시에 불안함을 느낀다. 절대적인 답을 내기는 어렵겠지만 지금은 틀 안에서 자유를 꿈꾸는 나의 모습을 지켜보기로 했다.

"The boy's body, which always wanted to live freely, has become an adult."

It was a special fun to see the wide sky and mountains, and to run around the forest of small and large buildings. I spent my childhood so happily that I didn't know how the day went without my smartphone or money, and I committed whatever I wanted to do. Even when I think about it now, when I was young, I worried a lot about my parents and didn't notice them. Then the boy became an adult's body as time passed, and he became more worried and greedy for the future.

Thoughts are no different from when I was young, but my current age and situations feel very different. It was expressed as a bird that personified the image of opposing ideals and reality. Birds symbolize the "freedom" and "ideal" that I have admired since I was young, and the human body symbolizes the "life of reality." An anthropomorphic bird wears colorful clothes and walks around the scenery I dreamed of. Imagination based on reality colors my life beautifully.

"I'm free within the frame"

What is true freedom? It's hard to answer questions all the time. I thought that "joy" felt free from oppression was one of freedom. However, fear comes with joy when i deviate from the framework of oppression that you have become accustomed to.

Humans demanded that they live freely in society by forming rules and regulations. I feel stuffy and comfortable at the same time within a set framework, and when I get out of the framework, I feel free and anxious at the same time. It will be difficult to give an absolute answer, but I decided to watch myself dreaming of freedom within the framework now.
